OfTheNorth SEASON 2
Episode 1 Arctic Changes
The Arctic snow was powder-white. It crunched and crackled under my feet as I travelled to work. The landscape around me was frozen, barren and lifeless. The wind was chilly and icy for a "Southerner's skin" .To my disbelief today was September 24 2017, first snowstorm of the year, and the snow was going to stay. You can say I wasn't mentally ready for winter but atlas she has arrived.
As I start my second year in the Arctic, I did not realize that the 2nd year would of been harder to adjust via the first year. .Many shortcomings and disappointments in the future weeks to come would challenge me as well. Friends would asked me how my second year is. I simply say it's different in many levels. For instance the weather. Oddly enough despite early snowfall, the weather here has been weird, warm relatively -10c, very windy, freezing rain and yes the infamous Blizzards. From October 31 to November 28. A total of 12 days from which the city was closed. Something that I never experience before. Even the animal kingdom seemed to be disrupted. Polar Bears and Arctic Foxes came to visit the community. Facebook posts of the Polar Bear whereabouts made the day to day activities much more adventuresome.
As we get closer to the winter Solstice, there is more darkness and less sunlight. The darkness and the occasional insomniac nights do get easier. The major difference is the cold. Last year it was -45 Celsius now it's a warm -25 Celsius , maybe I'm getting use the weather, go figure.
The last weeks have been busy at the Frobisher, hence my blog has been on break. Despite working a lot I did manage to take and find pictures from my Peeps. Hopefully it will give you a bird's eye view of my day to day environment, Enjoy the pictures , #PrinceOfTheNorth #Season2#StartingOverAgain #YOLO #WinterIsHere
